Making A Simple Handbag

Been watching television during school holiday, and I learnt something new from a Taiwanese show on how to make a handbag using unused skirt instead of throwing the skirt away.

This is the skirt that I'm going to recycle. It's 3 quarter skirt. After turning it into a bag, I find that a knee-length skirt will be better than this.

1. First, cut off 1/3 of the skirt.

2. Turn the skirt inside out. Use needle and thread, roughly sew the bottom of the skirt like the picture shown.

3. With a sewing machine, sew over the line you had sewn with needle and thread previously. Now turn the skirt inside out again, and your skirt is now a bag.

4. For the strips, use around 1 inches of left-over clothe for each strip. Fold a quarter inwards from the left and right, then fold into half. You might need an iron for help to make sure they stay at the right place before they open up. Sew the edges of the folded parts with sewing machine.

 5. Now, sew the strips onto the bag. Sew them inside the bag.

The bag is now done, but I find it a little too plain, so I used the lace of my skirt for a little design.

Voila! Maybe I can sew my name on this bag.
